We’ve all got drawers, cupboards and other nooks and crannies stuffed chock full of old technology, be it phones, games consoles or MP3 players. If only there was an easy way to get hard, cold cash for them. Granted there are solutions like eBay and Craigslist out there but there are various barriers to entry for both of those options. Now Amazon is joining the fray by adding electronics to their trade-in program – including iOS devices.
Part of Amazon’s existing trade-in program, the new electronics section is actually organized by a third-party company working under the Amazon banner – not that it matters one jot to us.
So what kinds of prices are we looking at for our favorite (old) toys? On the iOS side Amazon are offering $162 for an 8GB iPhone3GS in either black or white as well as $235 for 1st generation WiFi iPads in 16GB guise. Not bad really, and certainly better than having the hardware sat in a drawer doing nothing.
Other well-known devices Amazon are willing to take off your hands include the Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 2 ($148.50), Sprint HTC EVO 4G in white ($187), and SamsungGalaxyTab on T-Mobile ($176.25).
So next time you’re weighing up that upgrade, be sure to factor in what you could earn from your trusty old devices.
