Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 with Ultrasn0w [How to Guide]

How to upgrade to iOS 4.1 while preserving your baseband 01.59.00

STEP 1: Download TinyUmbrella latest version from here and iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 from here.

STEP 2: Close iTunes & connect your iPhone 4 to your PC then launch TinyUmbrella and select “Run as administrator”. If you got a Windows Security Alert, check both boxes and click on “Allow Access”.

STEP 3: Hit “Start TSS Server”. While the TSS Server is running well, TinyUmbrella will kill iTunes.

STEP 4: Now launch iTunes and click on the iPhone icon at the left sidebar of iTunes then hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) + Shift from the keyboard. Point it to the iPhone 4.1 firmware you already download.

STEP 5: iTunes will go in a bunch of steps to restore your device to iOS 4.1, it should give you error 1004 which indicates that the baseband is preserved successfully.

STEP 6: Get back to TinyUmbrella and hit “Kick Device Out of Recovery” to get your device out of Recovery Mode. let's unlock!

How to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 baseband 01.59.00 with Ultrasn0w

STEP 7: First, you will need to jailbreak your device using Limera1n jailbreak tool from Geohot by following the step by step guide posted here.

STEP 8: After jailbreaking, open Cydia and touch on Manage >> Sources >> Edit and hit the Add button on the top. Type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com then hit “Add Source”.

STEP 9: After installing the repo, go back to Cydia and search for Ultrasn0w, tap on it and it will be installed automatically.

Well done, now you got iPhone 4 totally jailbroken & unlocked on baseband 01.59.00, congrats. We will be happy to hear your questions about any issues or problems facing you while following the guide.

Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.

We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.

Jailbreak iPod touch 4G, 3G on iOS 4.1 with Limera1n

Jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS New Bootrom on iOS 4.1 with Limera1n

Moments ago, we posted that Limera1n was released to jailbreak all iOS 4.1 devices forever. We promised with how-to guides and here we go, you can now use the step by step guide below to jailbreak iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS using Limera1n on Windows only.

Here's the instructions to jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS on iOS 4.1 using Limera1n, PLEASE read the important notes at the end of the post:

STEP 1: Download Limera1n for Windows from here.

STEP 2: Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB then launch Limera1n and hit “make it ra1n”

STEP 3: You will have to get your device into DFU mode by following the steps on the screen shown by Limera1n.

• You iPhone will now be placed in recovery mode.

• Press both the power and the home buttons.

• When Limera1n asks you to, release the power button.

• Your phone will now be in DFU mode

STEP 4: Now, Limera1n app should be shown on your iPhone's home screen. Limera1n will pwn your device forever now.

STEP 5: The jailbreak should be done now. Tap on the limera1n icon on your device and install Cydia.

IMPORTANT:

• You have to keep some points in your mind, first, Limera1n will not unlock your device (i.e. you will lose unlock if you upgraded to iOS 4.1 and used limera1n).
• Limera1n would mess up GreenPois0n jailbreak release as the teams don't want to give Apple two exploits. They would better save one of them to 5th-generation devices.

Big breaking news in our world tonight as limera1n (to jailbreak iOS 4.1 for all iDevices) has been released - though it is for windows only (Yes, yes, a Mac version would be nice, but let's appreciate what we've got and give props out to where they belong).

By several accounts, and corroborated by those of you have have already delved right in, it works pretty well so far (though issues could become apparent, as the release is so fresh anything could still develop in the moments ahead). There is high drama in jailbreaker's paradise tonight as we're learning all is not smooth sailing with limera1n (the bugs are alive and well), as it simply isn't working right for everyone. Greenpois0n to Release on 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM (GMT); Beware of Fake Greenpois0n Downloads

When Greenpois0n Apple iOS 4.1 jailbreaking solution launches, it is expected to jailbreak all iOS devices, including the iPhone 4. Reports claim that Greenpois0n will be released on Sunday, 10 October at 10:10:10 a.m. These reports have stemmed from P0sixninja’s tweet on Thursday, informing “Things have progressed to the point where we don’t expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for Greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM (GMT).” Meanwhile, even as users wait for the download, a fake version, stuffed with malware, is floating.

Kaspersky Lab has noted that cybercriminals are “riding the buzz” around Greenpois0n; and also noticed a spate of fake ‘Greenpois0n’ Trojans. What’s more, a new fake greenpois0n iPhone iOS 4.1 jailbreak website is also up. It claims to have Greenpois0n download links for Windows/Mac and charges users $30 for the software.

For those waiting for the genuine Greenpois0n, here’s a thumbnail to save your day: if the solution is not free and not from the Chronic Dev Team, it’s not the real thing, and possibly a malware. Beware!

GreenPois0n Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 will Support Hacktivation

It's the time for some jailbreak news! We just noticed a new feature will be included in GreenPois0n jailbreak for all devices running iOS 4.1. The upcoming GreenPois0n jailbreak tool will hacktivate your device. Hacker p0sixninja member of Chornic Dev Team has answered someone asking about hacktivation support in Greenpois0n.

For those who don't know, hacktivation means a lot for users whose devices are locked on AT&T carrier and don't have the official SIM. You won't need to buy a phonebook card to activate your device, so you can unlock your device easily. GreenPois0n Jailbreak May Be Released Before Saturday

Yup, you read it right! The all-in-one jailbreak for iOS 4.1 may be released before Saturday, (i.e. it will be released this week). I thought a lot before posting this news but I found it interesting to tell people what's going on about the jailbreak especially that we make big (really big) news from simple tweets.

Chronic Dev Team member p0sixninja has confirmed this in a reply to someone asking him if the jailbreak will be released before Saturday:

Please, don't tell me that's some shit -- it's very important to keep our users informed. So, this means that the jailbreak may be released tonight, or probably tomorrow. Till now, we didn't know anything about tethered status, but we know that it will hacktivate your devices (no, not unlock).

Future Comex Jailbreak will Jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G on iOS 4.1

It was just moments ago when we told you that GreenPois0n jailbreak which is scheduled to be launched on Sunday 11th October, will not jailbreak anything but 4th-generation devices. In a new tweet from MuscleNerd, has confirmed that Comex is working on a new jailbreak for other devices as iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G.

SHAtter doesn't apply to iPhone3GS (or iPod touch 3G). New owners of those should wait for future @comex JB

It's clear, Comex, the iPhone hacker behind untethered Spirit jailbreak and userland JailbreakMe is working on a new jailbreak to jailbreak those old devices. Also, there's a new version of PwnageTool in it's way to jailbreak iPhone 3GS and a Windows version of Redsn0w to jailbreak iPhone 3G.

GreenPois0n Will Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad ONLY

After a bunch of good news about the ETA and Untethered status of GreenPois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1. Here comes some bad news, unfortunately GreenPois0n will not jailbreak anything but 4th-generation devices. 4th-generation devices indicates to iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad only, nothing more.

To all asking. Yes unfortunately SHAtter just won't work with anything but the 4th gen devices :(

Please remember that SHAtter and greenpoison are /only/ possible on the fourth-gen devices: iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4G.

This don't mean that other devices won't be jailbroken on iOS 4.1. According to iPhone Dev Team member Daniel Peebles, it's expected to find new exploits to jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G. We will keep you informed.


Update 1: Calm down, Comex will deliver a jailbreak for iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G users, the exploit may works on iOS 4.2 too.

redsn0w for Windows released iPhone 3G / ipt2g

We’ve released a beta version of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0.  It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days.  It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g.  Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1.  DO NOT USE REDSN0W.  That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple.  If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

The Windows version needs further testing, so for now this is available only for Mac OS X x86.  The Windows version will come as soon as the bugs are ironed out.

Note: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your 4.1 jailbreak will be tethered…sorry!  (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)

3. Select “Install Cydia” and any of the other options shown above, then click “Next”.  Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.

Note: If you choose to “Enable battery percentage”, you actually toggle that off and on via Settings->General->Usage.

Baseband 05.14.02 Crash Could Potentially Lead to Unlock for iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3GS [Video]

Last week, we published a post where we told you that the unlock for iPhone 3GS with the latest 05.14.02 baseband was currently not being worked on as both the Chronic and iPhoneDev teams were focusing on iOS 4.1 jailbreak (based on SHAtter exploit). With respect to that, we’d like to present a piece of good news to our readers: that of an 05.14.02 baseband exploit!

The exploit, discovered by hacker Clayton, which crashes iPhone 3GS could potentially lead up to an unlock being made available for the baseband-in-question on iOS 4.1. The crash takes place when you issue a certain command to the baseband which causes it to stop working.
This of course is yet to be confirmed by any member of the iPhone Dev-Team. Clayton has said that the exploit, however, may or may not be vulnerable but it is more vulnerable than the the other three exploits he found earlier. It seems to be a hardware issue and may also be used in future to unlock iPhone 4.
It’s full of mays, ifs and buts for now. But there is potential. And all you have to do is relax and pray the unlock releases as soon as possible.

Hackers Are Working on Unlocking Baseband 05.14.02 for iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1

Here's a piece of good news! Last week, we told you that Unlock for iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1 on 05.14.02 baseband is being delayed because both Chronic Dev Team and iPhone Dev Team are busy developing the jailbreak tool (based on SHAtter exploit) for all devices running iOS 4.1. The good one is that basband hacker Sherif Hashim has just confirmed to us that he is working on crashing baseband 05.14.02.

Sherif Hashem is a trusted member worked with the dev-team to crash baseband 05.13.04 on iOS 4before which used in Ultrasn0w 0.93. So, if he could successfully crash 05.14.02 baseband, we will see unlock soon. By the way, there's a hacker called Clayton Braasch said that he found 4 crashes to unlock baseband 05.14.02, but this is 99.99% fake (as confirmed before), so don't get your hopes up about this hacker. As usual, we will keep you updated.

When you download the file with IE (Internet Explorer), it has a zip extension.
You need to change that to .ipsw
(ATTENTION: the right extension is IPSW not ispw !!)
Don’t unzip it. Just change the extension (rename the .zip file in .ipsw).
On a Mac if you read “xxxx.ipsw.zip” delete .zip !
If you don’t want to change the file type to .ipsw, just use different browser such Firefox or Safari from Apple.

Chronic DEV-Team, The Guys behind the famous GreenPois0n Jailbreak have said that they are for now not working on the Unlock which was to be released for the iPhone 3GS, 05.14.02 Baseband. Here’s the tweet on their twitter account:

Downgrade iOS 4.1 iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and iPod touch to iOS 4 / iPhone 3.1.3 / 3.1.2 [How to Guide]

iOS 4.1 Beta was seeded to developers yesterday. Since the iOS 4.1 is currently onlyjailbreakable on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC model), you may want to downgrade your other iOS based devices from iOS 4.1 so that you can jailbreak them on iOS 4, or iOS 3.1.3 / 3.1.2 (formerly iPhone 3.1.3 or 3.1.2).

The following step by step guide will help you rollback / downgrade to iOS 4, iPhone 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 from iOS 4.1 Beta as long as you have SHSH blobs saved for the respective firmwares for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touches.

Step 1: Download the required old ipsw firmware files. (Download links: iOS 4, 3.1.3, 3.1.2)

Step 2: Put your device into DFU mode (not recovery mode).

• Connect your iPhone to your computer.
• Turn iPhone off.
• Start iTunes.
• Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
• Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
• iTunes will now recognize your iPhone.
